Basskaran Nair
Basskaran Nair is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore and the Senior Vice President, Communications, at CapitaLand.
Basskaran first worked as a journalist, followed by more than 25 years in public relations counsel and marketing communications in the public and private sectors.
In the public sector, he managed national, regional and international events such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, and headed the Singapore delegation for ASEAN Communications and Cultural issues. He has also chaired social marketing campaigns and was instrumental in creating national symbols for productivity and courtesy campaigns.
Currently he is involved in government's consultation activities as Chairman of Media Development Authority's Publication Consultative Panel and as a member of the Government’s Feedback Supervisory Committee.
In the private sector, Basskaran was Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at DBS Bank. He managed corporate and marketing communications in Singapore and abroad for the DBS Group of companies. In 1997, he became the Equity Partner for the Singapore office of Gavin Anderson Worldwide, an international communications firm. He managed communication programmes for several major mergers and acquisitions including those for Raffles Holdings’ acquisition of a global chain of hotels. He was also involved in the merger of Pidemco Land and DBS Land to form CapitaLand, one of the largest property companies in Asia. He joined CapitaLand in 2001.
Basskaran is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations, Singapore (IPRS), past President of the East-West Centre Alumni (Singapore), a USA think-tank organization, He has authored books and the latest is a seven series book “"From Main Street to Cyber Street: Changes in the Practice of Communication"”. He also writes regular articles on public relations, shareholder communications and public issues for the Singapore media. Besides a post graduate degree, he has attended executive management courses including those organised by INSEAD.
